The simplest solution would be to use “spiral spring” tines together with a coulter with a scarifying or extirpating effect. The scarifying coulter is better at removing the tractor tyre tracks, while the extirpator leaves the soil more even and eliminates any weeds that might be present.

For this reason, in commercial soil preparers, tines are positioned in two rows and scarifying coulters are positioned over the first row, while the extirpators are positioned in the second row. Some soil preparers use rigid tines mounted on springs, but this design is more complicated.

Following the Bellota catalogue, we recommend using a type 1535 scarifying coulter, with a 2481 or 2482 tine. If you are using extirpating coulters with the same type of tine you may like to choose type 1513.

The tine you use will depend on the depth to which you want to work the soil preparer. For a very light surface job you can use the 20x20 profile (Ref. Bellota 2480), or the 25x25 (Ref. Bellota 2481) for working deeper.
